Girls’ Cross Country
The girls cross country team finished a successful season with second place at the MHSAA Regionals, where athletes advanced to states. At states on November 1, the girls team scored 13th place with a score of 369.
The girls won second place at regionals, which qualified them for the state meet. St. Joseph’s fastest runner was Beatrice Perucchetti, 12. She earned 5th place with a time of 19:09 and set a goal time for states at 18:40, which she met with a run time of 18:41 at states.
Multiple members of the team voted that the Dowagiac course, where they ran the Rock-N-Run Invitational, is the best course that they’ve run all season, especially with the nice weather this year.
“The weather was definitely ideal for a PR,” JV member, Olivia Edwards, 9 said.
Cross Country isn’t only about winning, and often the best part is considered to be practice with friends.
“I love going on long runs with my friends because we talk the whole time,” Beatrice said. She also mentions how practice requires “mental toughness. You can’t lack in training,” she said.
Although this will be the seniors’ last season, the rest of the team is already hitting the streets to prepare for next year.
