Community Involvement on the decline

Since covid, student involvement at St. Joseph High School has progressively diminished. Whether it be at events like pep assemblies or after-school activities like clubs,  students just don't seem to care anymore. With current clubs already struggling to stay active at the high school, new clubs are finding an even harder problem–participation.

One club that stands out is Anime Club. While some people judge, they don’t truly understand how fun it could be. At Anime Club, students choose fun activities to participate in each week. The highlight of which is when they make a field trip to Chicago where they go to a ramen shop and attend an anime convention in May.

“Anime club is a great place to see all different anime!  We choose a different movie or show to watch each month,” club advisor Mrs. Kalina Mccormick said.

Outside of clubs, pep rallies are typically participated in by the same few people. One student claims it’s because of the potential of embarrassment.

“People are embarrassed to do it because on stage people feel really self-conscious,” Luna Francis, 10 said.

Whether it dwindles down to embarrassment or judgement, the SJHS student body has lost some of its spark due to not enough student involvement. Find out what’s happening at St Joseph High School and get involved!
