Inside the Student Senate
Students who cheer at pep rallies, dress for spirit week, or enjoy a transformed gym at dances see the work of the student senate. Behind the scenes, the group works to make high school feel less routine and more like an experience.
Students interviewed expressed they want more exciting events, recognition of all voices, and better communication about activities, club opportunities, and new initiatives that impact their lives.
While these expectations seem daunting, the senate works to spark school spirit, gather ideas, and embody leadership, bringing their plans to life.
Noah Adkins, 12, steps into his role as a co-president with key goals he hopes the senate will achieve.
“We want to up the social media,” Noah said. “As co-president, I’d say our goal is to set a new precedent of how involved the student senate should be for the next couple of years.”
Noah’s ambitious aim strives for impacts this year, but the vision doesn’t stop there. Joining him as co-president, Joey Berry, 12, reflected on his goals and the senate’s main role.
“I hope we gain more followers on Instagram and have our materials get out there more,” Joey said. “However, I’d also like to start incorporating senior send-off gifts, since we have a really big budget.”
While the co-presidents have their own targets, sophomore member Adam Dumke, shared what he’d like to see from the student senate too.
“We should try doing more during the second half of the year to make everything more memorable and meaningful,” Adam said.
Furthermore, the senate benefits from the guidance of their advisor, Mrs. Chelsea Pollyea.
“I’m super impressed with how motivated the students are. There’s a strong tradition here with the student senate, and they’re really knowledgeable about their role” Mrs. Pollyea said. “The level of dedication is unmatched, something I haven’t seen elsewhere, and it’s been enjoyable working with them.”
The student senate plays a vital role in shaping the spirit of our school, beyond planning events—they strive to foster connection, inclusion, and pride. As the year unfolds, their efforts aim to leave a lasting impact, making our student body feel involved, represented, and inspired.
