Boy’s Volleyball and Boy’s Rugby
A new addition to sports and clubs this year has been the boys' rugby team. While the team started learning the ropes and practicing together last school year, this 2025 season marks their first time actually competing against other schools. Along with the boys, the girls' rugby team also had their first season this year.
Starting a new club isn’t easy, but the coaches and players have persevered a lot. This team has spent countless hours practicing after school and on weekends, learning the rules of the game, developing their skills, and building chemistry both on and off the field. The man in charge of this team is Mr. Daniel Lafond, English teacher, who’s very passionate about the sport, as he can often be spotted in the halls tossing a rugby ball around with students.
Many players had never picked up a rugby ball before this year, but their willingness to step outside their comfort zones has made the team stronger. David Silva, 11, is one of the many first-time players on the team. “I just feel like it has a really close-knit community, and it’s been really fun to interact with the coaches and the players, and even other teams. It’s probably the most fun sport I’ve ever played.” It’s clear that the future of rugby at our school is bright, and with the dedication and passion this team has shown, they’re sure to accomplish great things in the seasons ahead.
The boy's volleyball team is starting off their 2025 season strong, with an overall record of 10-4, a conference record of 2-0, and taking home the “W” at their home quad on April 14. While this club isn’t brand new to our school, this year, a large new group of students joined the volleyball team. Hudson Corning, 10, is a new member of the boys' volleyball team. “My friends are what got me interested in playing,” Hudson expressed, “My favorite part is spiking the ball. It’s really fun.”
The blend of returning players and new faces has created a dynamic team that works hard and plays harder. Led by Coaches Paul Kelm and Nathan Harrmann, this group of boys is showing great potential. They practice every day, honing their skills and learning how to communicate efficiently on and off the court. This team seems to have a fun and inviting environment, which helped encourage so many new members to join. Learning a new sport comes with its difficulties, but as the season goes on, they will definitely achieve great things.
