Album of the Month

There’s only one album that’s put on repeat in my Spotify queue–and it’s Olivia Rodrigo’s you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. Not only has it been absorbed into my Spotify playlist, but it has also taken over the internet. Track number 3 “Honeybee” has even become the background of a viral trend on TikTok.

Olivia wrote this album about her relationship with pop star Louis Partridge. It talks about girlhood and the journey through one of her first serious relationships. She released this groundbreaking album June 12, 2026, but 3 of them came out earlier as singles: “Drop Dead” on April 17, “The Cure” on May 22, and “Stupid Song” on July 13.

From the first song, “Drop Dead”, talking about the first date and the jittery feelings that come along with it, to the last song, “Cigarette Smoke”, discussing the regret, resentment, and struggles that come with a breakup, Olivia Rodrigo descriptively illustrates the stages of her relationship. One SJHS student, Elizabeth Busa, 10, declares her enthusiasm for the album.

“It's definitely added a lot more to my daily songs I listen to and also to the songs that I need to listen to when I cry and calm down. It's really just heightened my general playlist,” she said.

One very unique thing about Olivia’s album, that I have not previously seen with others, is that every song has its own story and feeling that comes with it. Every person has their own favorite song and very rarely will you hear the same one come from two different people.

“My favorite is Maggots for Brains, but I’ve heard many different answers from my friends,” Elizabeth said.

Besides the relatability and connections Olivia's album brings to young adults, it also defines who they are as a person. Just the emotional element alone has nominated you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love for Album of the Month.
