Girls varsity soccer team closes out season
On Tuesday, May 26, the girls varsity soccer team will compete in their District championship game, after closing out the regular season with a record of 7-6-3. This was the final season for many of the senior players, including Beatrice Lapekas, Ava Mancini, and Jillian Connybeare. “These players have been vital to the success of the team. They have consistently contributed in a positive way,” Coach Chris Froelich said.
Aside from the seniors' success, the team had many other highlights. Players Addyson Arnold, 11, Maisy Gable, 10, Charlotte Steel, 12, Lainey Roche, 10, and Beatrice all earned All-Conference honors. Additionally, Charlotte was the team’s top scorer: she scored 7 goals over the course of the season, and Lainey, the goalie, saved over 150 shots.
This season was all a learning experience for the team’s two freshmen players, Gwendolyn Rommel and Payton Thompson. Gwendolyn was nervous to be on varsity at first, but she gained a lot of knowledge from her older teammates. “At first it was hard being on varsity because it’s very intense. But, I grew a lot as a player and learned from my teammates,” she said.
“We have had several moments this season where the team has played extremely well. Really proud of this team and how they have played against really tough competition,” Coach Froelich said.
