The not so Average Joes

Average Joes, the St. Joe Robotics team, had a strong performance at their last competition. It was held at SJHS; 36 teams attended, one of which being our rival, Lance A Bot, from Lakeshore High School.

Average Joes competed in 12 matches, and were named 5th in the qualification matches. The 2nd-seated team picked them to compete against the 3rd-seat alliance: the 3rd place team.

They proceeded to win the quarter finals, which gave them the opportunity to compete in the semi-finals. Despite losing in the round, they put up a strong fight and ended up receiving the Quality Reward, given to teams to celebrate the machine’s robust concept and fabrication.

During the competition, the Average Joes had complications that they had to overcome. Their robot hit a wall and fell apart, but they still persevered.

“We modified it, not only to fix it, but to make it stronger,” Jared Svetlev, 12 a member of Average Joes, said. Not only were all members of the team cheering each other on, but they were also cheering on the competitors and helping them when they needed it.

“I’m very proud of the team for their good spirits,” Jared Svetlev added.

The team is now waiting to see if they’ll be able to move onto the State Competition after spring break. Good luck, Average Joes!
