Updates From the 2025 Grammys
From Lady Gaga's meat dress to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock, award shows have always been memorable, and the 2025 Grammys were no exception. Held on February 2, the 64th annual Grammys recognized the record, album, song, and best new artist of the year, giving out a total of 94 awards.
This year, the Grammys came at a tough time for Hollywood, as many were battling the L.A. wildfires, which have been devastating California since January 7. Throughout the ceremony, several celebrities—like Billie Eilish and Trevor Noah—paid tribute to the victims during their speeches and performances. The Grammys even raised $9 million to donate to fire relief. Midway through the ceremony, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars covered “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas & The Papas as a tribute to those affected by the wildfires.
“This has been a horrible, scary time,” Gaga said in an interview with Rolling Stone when asked about the wildfires. “But during these times, I feel like people come together, and we see how much we need each other. And I want to always remember us just like this.”
Later in the show, Chappell Roan was awarded Best New Artist, and instead of the classic emotional acceptance speech, she chose to highlight a much more serious topic. She used her speech to shed light on the money-hungry record labels in the industry, which often see their artists as nothing more than a means to generate profit. During her speech, Chappell claimed, “Demanding that labels pay artists like salaried employees ignores the fundamental economic structure of the business. No one is forcing artists to sign deals.” On February 10, she proved her commitment to her beliefs by partnering with a nonprofit to create the “We Got You” campaign, which donates to musicians' mental health and healthcare. “It's so refreshing to see a big celebrity standing up for what's right and using their platform for good,” said Audra Bishop, 9.
Kanye West has quite a reputation at award shows. Whether you love him or hate him, you have to admit he's made some morally questionable decisions—like at the 2025 Grammys. While only present for about four to five minutes, Kanye and his wife, Bianca Censori, left paparazzi shocked when Bianca took off her long black fur jacket to reveal… well… nothing. After leaving the red carpet, the two weren’t spotted for the rest of the night, leading fans to speculate that the couple had been kicked out—until E! News reported that they had only attended to make a statement and had no plans to stay. Nude dresses are nothing new on the red carpet, but this moment will certainly leave paparazzi wary around long coats.
Fans of pop could tell you a thing or two about the long-standing drama between singers Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo. It's a tale as old as time. In 2021, Olivia Rodrigo dropped “Drivers License,” which directly threw shade at Sabrina Carpenter for getting with her ex-boyfriend. In retaliation, two weeks after the release of “Drivers License,” Sabrina released “Skin,” throwing the shade right back. But every story has a happy ending. At the 2025 Grammys, the two were seen hugging it out, leading fans to believe they have finally buried the hatchet.
At the end of the day, the Grammys are about much more than just music awards. Whether it's feeding fans with endless interactions between their favorite celebrities, creating drama, or squashing it, the Grammys remain a must-see event in Hollywood.
