Ellen Degenerate: The Fall of Talk Show Hosts

Being pressured into doing things you're not totally comfortable with happens on an everyday basis, like eating a spicy wing or sending that risky heartfelt message. Now imagine having that pressure increase by 1.4 million. That is the amount of viewers the Ellen talk show received in its final season run. According to People.com, Ellen has hosted 19 seasons and over 4,000 guests on her show, yet one guest stands out. In 2019 Dakota Johnson made an appearance on the Ellen Degeneres Show where she decided not to play the part written for her and confronted Degeneres on the show about false claims. This led to many celebrities speaking out and standing up for themselves in interviews and on talk shows. Some of these celebrities included Mark Ruffalo, Brad Garrett, Caitlyn Jenner, Piers Morgan, and many more. It was a miniature movement for celebrities to actually be allowed to be themselves in interviews. Dakota was later praised amongst the Hollywood community for speaking her truth. Now, in the midst of canceled culture, talk show hosts have a much lighter, more family fun approach where celebrities can come out of their shell in the best and most entertaining ways.

“Why we need to encourage kids to be comfortable in their own skin is because we treat ourselves and we tend to treat others better, and we think more instead of just acting because we want to be liked,” Mrs. Alli Hoskins said on being true to yourself.

Even on a large scale with celebrities manipulation occurs. It's practically become what these hosts live off of, but it doesn’t just stop there. The day to day peer pressure that occurs in high schools is at a high. It isn’t just celebrities with a million people watching, sometimes it is two people with no one watching. It can be easy to succumb to pressures by friends or peers: especially in high school. It is important we stay honest and true to ourselves so that we can truly show our strengths. If we are inoperative of making our own choices then we basically become puppets for tyrants in school and on talk shows.
